Cerritos
College pitchers
Kevin Camacho (Santa
Fe HS) and
Miguel Flores (St.
John Bosco HS) limited
Golden West College to nine
singles and struck out six
batters to lead the Falcons to a
2-1 non-conference baseball win
at Kincaid Field on Wednesday
afternoon. With the win,
Cerritos improved to 9-2 on the
season, while the Rustlers
dropped to 8-3. The Falcons will
get another look at an Orange
Empire Conference team on
Thursday when they host Irvine
Valley College at 2:00 p.m.
The Falcons
scored single runs in the first
and fourth innings, while the
Rustlers cut their deficit in
half in the seventh, thanks to a
Cerritos error. However, Flores
came on in the seventh inning
and got out of a two-out jam
with runners on second and third
after Golden West had just
scored on a sacrifice fly by
Justin Wheeler. Flores was able
to get Josh Potter to pop up to
shortstop
Jerry Pena (Los
Altos HS) to end the
inning. Flores them pitched the
final two innings to earn his
third save on the year.
In the bottom
of the first inning, sophomore
outfielder
Nick Armstrong (Marina
HS) led off the inning for
the Falcons and after getting
sacrificed to second base, moved
to third when a third strike
against sophomore outfielder
Andrew Baslow (Chatsworth
HS) got away from catcher
Billy Nowlin. Rustler pitcher
Jeff Roth then threw the ball
away trying to get Armstrong at
third base, allowing him to
score. In the fourth inning,
freshman first baseman
Trever Blood (La
Mirada HS) led off the a
single, was sacrificed to second
base and eventually came home on
a single by Flores, who started
the game at third base.
Golden West
had their chances to score, but
left the bases loaded in the
fourth and fifth innings and
finished the game with 13 left
on base. In the fourth inning,
Camacho struck out Jose Flores
with the bases loaded and two
outs, while he induced to
harmless infield pop flies to
get out of a bases loaded jam in
the fifth inning.
