Sophomore
right-handed pitcher
Kevin Camacho
(Santa Fe HS)
pitched a
complete-game
six-hitter to lead
the Cerritos College
baseball team to a
4-1 non-conference
win over Chaffey
College at Kincaid
Field on Wednesday
afternoon. With the
win, the Falcons are
now 12-3 on the
year, while the
Panthers dropped to
6-7. The team will
now travel to
Fullerton College on
Saturday for a 12:00
p.m. game in hopes
of avenging one of
their three losses
on the season. The
win over Chaffey
avenged an 8-6 loss
earlier in the
season.
Camacho (3-0) and
the Falcons fell
behind 1-0 in the
fifth inning, but
took advantage of
three Panther errors
in the sixth inning
to score their four
runs. During his
time on the mound,
Camacho struck out
five and worked out
of three innings
when Chaffey
advanced runners to
second base. He
ended three innings
with strikeouts and
was in command from
the outset.
In
the four-run sixth
inning, freshman
third baseman
Miguel Flores
(St. John Bosco
HS) led off with
a base hit and moved
to second base when
freshman outfielder
Anthony Topete
(Norwalk HS)
drew a walk. The
first two errors
came on a ball hit
by sophomore
outfielder
Nick Armstrong
(Marina HS),
which scored both
runs. After the ball
was thrown away by
shortstop James
Koerner, which
allowed Flores to
score, they tried to
cut down Topete, but
Panther second
baseman James
Ormston made another
bad throw, which
scored Topete and
allowed Armstrong to
advance to third
base.
The
inning continued
after Armstrong was
thrown out at home
trying to score on a
ground ball by
sophomore infielder
Jose Serrano
(Artesia HS).
After another error
by Ormston on a ball
hit by sophomore
outfielder
Andrew Baslow
(Chatsworth HS)
put runners at
second and third, a
wild pitch brought
home the third run,
while freshman
shortstop
Jerry Pena (Los
Altos HS)
singled home the
fourth run.
