After the dust had settled on the South Coast Conference baseball season, it shows that there is a three-way tie for first place. Fortunately for Cerritos College, they are one of the three teams, as the Falcons posted an 18-6 mark along with El Camino College and Los Angeles Harbor College. El Camino, who won the season series against both teams, 2-1, will go into the Southern California Regional Playoff Seeding Meeting as the top seed from the conference, while Cerritos will go as the second team. The Falcons won two out of three games against LA Harbor, which serves as the tie-breaker.
There was a chance that Cerritos could have been the third team out of the conference and had to share second place with El Camino, but East Los Angeles College recorded a 7-2 win over the Seahawks on Friday afternoon, which resulted in the three-way tie.
The seeding meeting for the post season will take place on Sunday, with 17 team being selected for the playoffs. The 16th and 17th seeds will compete in a play-in game on Tuesday, with the top eight seeded teams earning home field advantage for the first round two-out-of-three series. The first round games will be played on Saturday and Sunday.
In other Falcon baseball news, the team's suspended game at Saddleback College from February 19 was ruled as a 3-0 win for Cerritos after both coaches agreed not to finish the contest. Cerritos scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to account for the only scoring in the game before rain washed out the rest of the game. The win now improves the Falcons record to 33-11 on the year, their most wins since the 2003 season when they won their last conference championship.
