Former Cerritos College baseball pitcher Robbie Dominguez (El Rancho HS), who was drafted in the 45th round of the Major League Draft last season by Seattle, has signed a minor league contract with the Mariners and has reported to their Arizona camp. As a sophomore this past season, Dominguez went 9-3 on the season with a 2.55 ERA and was named 1st Team All-South Coast Conference, as the Falcons won a share of the conference championship and concluded the season with a 33-13 record.
Dominguez led the team in innings pitcher (113) and strikeouts (103), while he appeared in 20 games and started 15 times. He limited opponents to a .211 batting average and surrendered just 37 walks and 87 hits. As a freshman, he posted a 3-3 record with one save in 13 games (seven starts) and had a 3.38 ERA.
He reported directly to the Mariners Arizona League in Peoria, AZ, where he is expected to join their rotation immediately. Before signing, Dominguez was being recruited heavily by several colleges, and he was leaning towards either Lewis & Clark State or Chico State. Dominguez chose to sign with the Mariners instead of putting himself back into the 2007 draft, which will take place June 7-8.
