With the Cerritos College baseball
team resuming South Coast Conference
action on Thursday, the Falcons fell
victim to a slow start and dropped a
6-3 decision at East Los Angeles
College. The loss was the third in a
row on the year and second to the
Huskies, who beat Cerritos prior to
Spring Break. Although the Falcons
(17-12 overall) remain in first
place in the
SCC with an 8-2 record, the
gap has now closed, as the Huskies
(7-3), Long Beach City College (7-3)
and El Camino College (6-2) move
closer to Cerritos. The team will
now travel to Los Angeles Harbor
College (5-5) on Saturday for a noon
game.
In
the loss to East LA, the Falcons
trailed 3-0 after the first inning,
with two errors contributing to
their deficit. Cerritos closed to
gap to 3-2 with a pair of runs in
the top of the fourth inning, as
sophomore
Trever
Blood (La Mirada HS)
led off with a double and advanced
to third base on a wild pitch.
Freshman
George Sanchez (Gahr
HS) then followed with a
run-scoring single, while freshman
AJ
Rodriguez (Gahr
HS) returned to the lineup and
drove in Sanchez with a base hit.
But that would be as close as
Cerritos would get after a single
run by the Huskies in the fifth
inning was followed by a two-run
home run by Pete Lavin in the bottom
of the eighth inning off freshman
pitcher
Steve
Blanchette (Schurr
HS) gave
ELAC a three-run lead.
Blood finished the day with two hits
and a walk, while Sanchez also
collected two with with Rodriguez
driving in a pair.
