Freshman
starting pitcher
Chris Villalobos (El Rancho HS)
received 11 runs of support to compliment his
four-hit, complete game performance to lead the
Cerritos College baseball team to an 11-1 South
Coast Conference win at Mt. San Antonio College
Thursday evening. The win was the second in a
row for the Falcons over Mounties, who moved
into third place in the tight conference.
Cerritos is now 17-11 overall and 10-6 in the
SCC, while Mt. SAC dropped to 18-12 and 8-6. The
team will now travel to El Camino College at
noon in another conference game. The Warriors
are currently in second place with a 10-4 SCC
record.
Cerritos
scored in six of the nine innings and worked
their way through eight different Mountie
pitchers. The Falcons opened the scoring in the
third inning with back-to-back singles by
freshmen outfielders
Adam
Peacock (La Mirada HS) and
Jake
Mayoral (Rocklin HS).
Sophomore third baseman
Brian
Gaylord (La Mirada HS)
then doubled them both home and eventually came
home on a double by sophomore outfielder
David
Neff (John Glenn HS).
Freshman shortstop
Max
McEleney (Long Beach Wilson HS)
collected an RBI single in the fourth, while
Gaylord drove in the first of two runs with a
sacrifice fly, with freshman designated hitter
Joe Terry (Long Beach Poly
HS) singling in another run.
Villalobos,
who improved his record to 7-2 on the year,
struck out eight batters and walked just one. He
started the game by retiring the first 11
batters he faced, although three of the four
hits he allowed went for extra bases. He set
down the Mounties in order in four innings and
allowed just one base runner in three others.
On the day,
Neff went 4-for-6 with two doubles and two RBI,
while Gaylord (2-for-5, 3 RBI), Mayoral
(2-for-3, 3 runs, RBI), Terry (2-for-5, RBI)
and sophomore catcher
Paul
Hayes (Bellflower HS), who
went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, all had two
hits on the day. Freshman outfielder
Marcus Stevens (Mayfair HS)
added a two-run pinch-hit triple in the ninth
inning.
