The Cerritos
College baseball team continued to swing hot bats,
as they pounded out 15 hits in a 16-8 South Coast
Conference win over Pasadena City College at
Brookside Park on Thursday. The win improved the
Falcons to 21-14 on the year and 12-7 in SCC play,
while the Lancers fell to 7-25 and 2-15. The two
teams will meet up at Kincaid Field on Saturday in a
noon game.
Trailing 6-4
heading into the fourth inning, the Falcons scored
five runs to take a lead they would not relinquish.
Freshman first baseman
Josh Bryan
(La Mirada HS) opened with a base hit,
while freshman outfielder
Lemuel
Johnson (Gahr HS) reached on
an error when he laid down a sacrifice but. Freshman
outfielder
Jake
Mayoral (Rocklin HS) loaded
the bases with a single before freshman shortstop
Max McEleney (Long Beach Wilson HS)
was hit by a pitch to drive in a run. A sacrifice
fly by sophomore third baseman
Brian
Gaylord (La Mirada HS) tied
the game, while freshman second baseman
Joe Terry
(Long Beach Poly HS) broke the tie with a
three-run blast, his third of the season.
Cerritos tacked on
four big runs in the top of the seventh inning to
turn an 11-7 game into a 15-7 lead. The big hit in
the inning was a two-run double by freshman
designated hitter
Jacob Eaton
(Calvary Chapel HS), while Terry and
sophomore catcher
Paul Hayes
(Bellflower HS) each collected RBI singles.
Freshman pitcher
Chris
Villalobos (El Rancho HS)
pitched six innings and allowed seven runs (four
earned), while he struck out four to earn the win
and improve to 9-2 on the season. Freshman relief
pitcher
Tucker
Woods (La Mirada HS) pitched
three quality innings to earn his first save of the
season. He surrendered two hits and one run
(unearned) and struck out a pair.
Terry went 2-for-4
on the day with five RBI, four runs scored and a
walk, while Gaylord posted a 4-for-5 day with four
runs scored and an RBI. Mayoral scored all three
times he reached base, with Bryan and sophomore
outfielder
David Neff
(John Glenn HS) each posting a pair of
hits.
