The Falcons came right
back in the top of the seventh inning by scoring two and
then added three more in the eighth inning to take the
lead and the win.
Freshman shortstop
Max
McEleney (Long Beach Wilson HS)
led off the seventh with a walk before advancing to
second base on a fielder's choice by freshman outfielder
Jake
Mayoral (Rocklin HS). A bunt hit
by sophomore third baseman
Brian
Gaylord (La Mirada HS)
loaded the bases for sophomore second baseman
Brandon
Pesante (La Mirada HS), who drew a
walk to force in the first run. A fielder's choice out
at the plate and a strikeout left the bases loaded for
freshman outfielder
Joe Terry
(Long Beach Poly HS), who was hit by a pitch
that forced in the second run of the inning.
In the eighth,
sophomore outfielder
David Neff
(John Glenn HS) singled to lead off the inning
before McEleney reached on a fielder' choice. An error
by Olympians shortstop Dani Galvan leaded the bases,
where Gaylord singled home two runs to give the Falcons
a 4-3 lead. Pesante finished off the scoring with an RBI
single.
On the day, Gaylord
and Pesante each had two hits and two RBI for Cerritos,
while McEleney scored two runs. On the mound, Heirigs
earned his first win of the year, while sophomore
Steven Blanchette (Schurr HS)
picked up his first save of the season by pitching the
final 1 1/3 innings.
