Cerritos College
freshman pitcher
Chris
Villalobos (El Rancho HS)
needed just 96 pitches to throw a 6-0 complete game
shutout victory over Los Angeles Harbor College in a
South Coast Conference game at Kincaid Field on
Saturday afternoon. The win snapped the team's two
game losing streak and improved their record to
13-10 overall and 6-5 in SCC play, while the
Seahawks are now 13-10 and 7-4. The Falcons will now
close out their series against LA Harbor on Tuesday
with a 2:30 p.m. game in Wilmington.
For Villalobos
(6-2), he was staked a 2-0 lead in the first inning
and never looked back, as he limited the Seahawks to
four harmless singles, while he struck out four and
walked just one. In addition to his effective
pitching, Villalobos also fielded his position
superbly, handling all five comebackers on the day.
The Falcons opened
their scoring in the first when freshman outfielder
Jake Mayoral (Rocklin HS) was
hit by the first offering from Seahawks pitcher Phil
Hons (1-2). Freshman shortstop
Max
McEleney (Long Beach Wilson HS)
followed with a run-scoring double down the left
field line and then came home on a base hit by
freshman designated hitter
Joe Terry
(Long Beach Poly HS).
It was Terry to
started the scoring in the fourth inning with a
two-out double down the right field line, followed
by a base hit by sophomore catcher
David Neff
(John Glenn HS). On the base hit, LA Harbor
right fielder Jonathan Kim slipped and fell,
allowing Neff to advance all the way to third base
on the error. Freshman first baseman
Jacob Eaton
(Calvary Chapel HS) drove in Neff with a
base hit up the middle.
Cerritos closed
out the scoring with single runs in the fifth and
eighth innings. Sophomore third baseman
Brian
Gaylord (La Mirada HS) laid
down a nice bunt to lead off the fifth with a
single and advanced to second on the throwing error
by Hons. After a ground out, Neff (3-for-4) drove in
his second run of the game with a single up the
middle. Sophomore second baseman
Brandon
Pesante (La Mirada HS) drove
in the final run of the game, scoring Hayes from
second after he doubled with two outs.
