The Cerritos
College baseball team was looking to get themselves
back into the race for first place in the South
Coast Conference when they faced East Los Angeles
College on Wednesday at Cal State Los Angeles. The
Falcons entered the day two games behind
conference-leading Long Beach City College, who has
a 9-3 record. After dropped a 12-6 decision to the
Huskies, Cerritos continues to sit with the rest of
the pack with their 7-6 SCC record, while they fell
to 14-11 overall. The team will now host East LA at
noon on Saturday.
The Falcons did
open up a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the
third inning, but freshman starting pitcher
Skye
Severns (Claremont HS) allowed
three runs in the inning, as he allowed three
straight hits to lead the bases. Two of the runs
crossed the plate when he hit two batters, while a
ground out accounted for the third. Each time
Cerritos tied the game, the Huskies came right back
until they broke the game open with four runs in the
bottom of the eighth inning.
Sophomore
David Neff
(John Glenn HS) singled home the first run
in the first inning and then tripled in another in
the third inning. He added a bases loaded walk in
the fifth inning, and the Falcons could have busted
the game open, but an inning-ending double-play put
a halt to that rally.
In addition to
Neff, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, freshman
designated hitter
Joe Terry
(Long Beach Poly HS) went 2-for-5 with two
runs scored. On the mound, the Falcons allowed 14
hits, while the defense committed a season-high six
errors.
