After finishing in
a three-way second place tie in the South Coast
Conference, the Cerritos College baseball team was
seeded 11th for the Southern California Regional
Playoffs and will travel to face #7-seeded Mt. San
Jacinto College in a best-of-3 series starting on
Friday. The first game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on
Friday, while the second game will be played at
11:00 a.m. on Saturday. If a third game is
necessary, it will be played 30 minutes after the
conclusion of the 11:00 a.m. game.
The Falcons
(26-15) enter the playoffs winning seven of their
last eight games and earned the second place finish
out of the SCC based on the three-way tie-breaker.
As for the Eagles (31-10), they are the co-champions
of the Foothill Conference and have won 17 of their
last 19 games.
Mt. San Jacinto is
led on the mound by pitcher BJ Salsbury, who is 13-0
on the season with nine complete games and a 1.93
ERA. He has pitched in 93.1 innings and has struck
out 113 batters. They also turn to Drew Madrigal,
who is 8-4 with a 2.86 ERA and 125 strikeouts in
91.1 innings of work. At the plate, John Eshleman
(.463, 3 HR, 32 RBI, 12 SB), Madrigal (.411, 6 HR,
42 RBI), Anthony Smith (.394, 3 HR, 30 RBI) and Josh
Ray (.392, 4 HR, 32 RBI, 17 SB) lead the way.
Cerritos has only
faced Mt. San Jacinto five times in their history
and have won all five games. The last time the two
teams met up was in 2006, where the Falcons posted a
15-0 win.
