Still looking for that right combination, the
Cerritos College baseball team suffered their
third straight loss in as many days, as they
were defeated, 14-2 by host Saddleback College
in a non-conference game on Friday. The Falcons
(1-3) will now return home to host Chaffey
College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in another
non-conference game.
It was another game in which Cerritos fell
behind early and spent the day trying to play
catch-up. After surrendering a 3-0 lead, the
Falcons scored single runs in the fourth and
fifth innings to get to within, 3-2. However,
the Gauchos responded with a single run in the
fifth inning, and continued to score, which
ended with six runs in the bottom of the eighth
inning to put the game completely out of reach.
In the third inning, freshman outfielder
Hector
Gomez (John Glenn HS) drew
a one-out walk and was driven home on a double
to right-center field by sophomore outfielder
Jacob
Eaton (Calvary Chapel HS).
But that would be all the offense the Falcons
could string together until the next stanza.
Freshman outfielder
Matt
Palmer (Gahr HS) opened
the inning with his second of three hits on the
day and came home on a double by sophomore third
baseman
Jake
Mayoral (Rocklin HS).
Sophomore designated hitter
Max McEleney (Long Beach Wilson
HS) followed with a base hit, but Mayoral
was thrown out at the plate trying to score.
Freshman starter
Nick
Quezada (Mayfair HS) was
hit hard, as he surrendered seven runs (six
earned) in 6 1/3 innings, while freshman
Kevin
Hendrix (Mayfair HS)
allowed four earned runs in his inning of work.
Sophomore
Jay Heirigs (Rocklin HS)
saw three runs score in his 2/3 innings.
