Although they scored eight runs in the first
inning, the Cerritos College baseball team found
themselves having to put together three more
scoring innings to post a 15-7 non-conference
win over Chaffey College at Kincaid Field on
Saturday afternoon. The Falcons (2-3) will now
travel to College of the Canyons for a 2:00 p.m.
non-conference game on Wednesday.
Cerritos scored eight times in the first inning
on only four hits, while they received two hit
batters and a walk, with the Panthers (1-3)
committing three errors. Two big hits in the
inning came from sophomore second baseman
Max McEleney (Long Beach Wilson
HS), who had a two-run single, while
freshman shortstop
Ralph
Davis (Long Beach Millikan HS)
added a two-run double.
Freshman pitcher
Christian Rodriguez (Norwalk HS)
was cruising along until he hit a wall in the
fourth inning and surrendered seven earned runs
and was replaced by sophomore
Chris Villalobos (El Rancho HS).
Over the final six innings, Villalobos (1-1)
allowed just three hits and struck out seven.
Davis had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4
with three RBI and three runs scores, while
sophomore outfielder
Adam
Peacock (La Mirada HS)
collected three hits. Freshman catcher
Vince
Perry (Cypress HS) was
2-for-4 with three RBI, with McEleney, freshman
outfielder
Matt
Palmer (Gahr HS),
sophomore third baseman Jake
Mayoral (Rocklin HS),
freshman first baseman
Tim Soonthorngarun (John Glenn
HS) and sophomore designated hitter
Michael Stowers (Bishop O'Dowd
HS/Cal State Dominguez Hills) each
recording a pair of hits.
