In one of those games most teams try to put past
them, the Cerritos College baseball team
suffered through a 12-1 non-conference loss
against Irvine Valley College on Friday
afternoon at Kincaid Field. The loss dropped the
Falcons record to 2-5, while they look to snap a
two-game losing streak on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.,
as they host Santa Ana College. Due to the
impending weather, the game has been moved back
two hours from its original noon start.
Cerritos had no answer for Lasers (5-3) pitcher
Steve Greenberg, who allowed as many hits (four)
as he collected with his bat. He went 4-for-6 at
the plate with four RBI, which resulted from a
pair of two-run singles in the seventh and
eighth innings, respectively. He was tossing a
shutout until the ninth inning, until the
Falcons pushed a run across the board on an RBI
single by sophomore designated hitter
Jacob
Eaton (Calvary Chapel HS),
who drove in freshman pinch-hitter
Daniel Luera (Mary Star of the
Sea HS). Eaton accounted for two of the
team's four hits.
The game was moving along smoothly through the
first three innings, until Irvine Valley pushed
four runs across the board. Cerritos helped a
little with a pair of errors, including a
fielding error by sophomore second baseman
Max McEleney (Long Beach
Millikan HS) with two outs that allowed the
inning to stay alive and resulted in the third
and fourth runs of the inning.
On the day, Cerritos committed more errors
(five) than they had hits (four). Irvine Valley
was able to string hits together and chased four
Falcon pitchers. Laser outfielder Victor Lopez
drove in three runs, while Micah Gorman scored
three times, as he drew three walks.
