The Cerritos College baseball team has won just
three of their first 10 games on the season.
With their 7-5 non-conference win at Fullerton
College on Thursday afternoon, two of those
victories have come against the Hornets. The
Falcons (3-7) will now play a couple of rain
make-up games in the next two days, as they host
Los Angeles Valley College at 2:00 p.m. on
Friday and Glendale College at 1:00 p.m. on
Saturday.
In the win over the Hornets, Cerritos jumped out
to a 5-2 lead and was able to answer any
offensive attack Fullerton put on them the rest
of the way. The Falcon broke a 1-1 tie with four
runs in the third inning and added a pair of
insurance runs in the seventh inning.
In the third, sophomore outfielder
Michael Stowers (Bishop O'Dowd
HS/Cal State Dominguez Hills) and freshman
shortstop
Ralph
Davis (Long Beach Millikan HS)
opened the inning with consecutive singles.
After an out was recorded, freshman outfielder
Matt
Palmer (Gahr HS) was hit
by a pitch to load the bases. Sophomore
designated hitter
Jacob
Eaton (Calvary Chapel HS)
responded with a two-run single, with sophomore
third baseman
Jake
Mayoral (Rocklin HS)
adding an RBI single and sophomore outfielder
Adam
Peacock (La Mirada HS)
checking in with an RBI fielder's choice.
Sophomore starting pitcher
Chris Villalobos (El Rancho HS)
earned the win by going 7 2/3 innings and
striking out nine. Villalobos (2-1) was charged
with five earned runs, but picked up the win,
while freshman
Christian Rodriguez (Norwalk HS)
earned his first save of the season.
Eaton finished the day 2-for-5 with three RBI
and two runs scored, while Mayoral and Peacock
both drive in a pair. Freshman first baseman
Tim Soonthorngarun (John Glenn
HS) also had a pair of hits for the
Falcons.
