Freshman pitcher
Nick
Quezada (Mayfair HS)
pitched a complete-game three-hit shutout to
lead the Cerritos College baseball team to a 4-0
non-conference win over Los Angeles Valley
College at Kincaid Field on Friday afternoon.
Quezada (1-1), who pitched to just four batters
over the minimum, struck out 13 on the day and
didn't walk a batter until there were two outs
in the ninth inning. With the win, the Falcons
improved to 4-7 on the year, and will look for
their third win in as many days when they host
Glendale College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Cerritos gave Quezada a 1-0 lead in the first
inning when sophomore designated hitter
Jacob
Eaton (Calvary Chapel HS)
and freshman first baseman
Tim Soonthorngarun (John Glenn
HS) each drew two-out walks. Sophomore
third baseman
Jake
Mayoral (Rocklin HS) drove
in Eaton for a lead that would hold up with rest
of the game. For Quezada, he struck out at least
one batter in eight of the innings, while six
were called third strikes.
Los Angeles Valley, who only suited up 10
players due to an altercation in their previous
game, stayed close until fielding miscues
allowed the Falcons to score their final three
runs.
In the third inning, Eaton slapped a two-out
hit, with Soonthorngarun drawing a walk. Mayoral
then saw his ground ball to shortstop Francisco
Herrera get booted, which allowed Eaton to score
and Soonthorngarun to move to third base. A balk
allowed the second run to score, while a pair of
errors in the eighth inning accounted for the
fourth run.
Sophomore second baseman
Max McEleney (Long Beach Wilson
HS) went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Eaton
scored three of the team's runs, with sophomore
outfielder
Adam
Peacock (La Mirada HS)
getting a pair of hits.
