After completing one of the toughest seasons in
Cerritos College baseball history, six players
have made their plans known for their future.
The Falcons, who missed the post-season after
going 14-22 on the year, have announced that
second baseman Joe Terry and
pitcher Skye Severns, who
signed with four-year universities, will be
joined by pitchers Chris Villalobos
and Tucker Woods, along with
shortstop Max McEleney and
outfielder Adam Peacock have
signed with four-year schools.
Terry, who inked with Cal State Fullerton prior to the start
of the season, was also drafted in the 8th Round
by the Chicago White Sox in the Major League
Baseball Draft in June. He is currently weighing
his options while playing for the Rochester
Honkers of the Northwest League in a wood bat
league and leads the team with a .392 batting
average. Beset by injuries during his
sophomore year, Terry batted .357 (25-for-70)
with four home runs, 16 RBI and 16 walks. But it
was his freshman season that had scouts watching
the left-handed hitting phenom. As a freshman,
Terry was named 1st Team All-Southern California
All-American as a designated hitter. He also led
the team with a .426 batting average, as well as
leading the squad in hits (72), runs (50),
doubles (14), triples (14), home runs (4), RBI
(57), total bases (126) and slugging percentage
(.746).
As for Severns,
who signed with New Mexico State University
prior to the start of the season, he went 2-3 on
the year with a 6.00 ERA in 42 innings and
struck out 30 batters. He will be joining an
Aggies team that went 36-23-1 last year and were
eliminated in the Western Athletic Conference
Tournament in two games.
The Falcons
top pitcher in his two years with the team,
Villalobos has signed with Valdosta (GA) State
University. He posted an 8-4 record with a 5.14
ERA and 75 strikeouts in 96.1 innings of work as
a sophomore and was a 2nd Team All-South Coast
Conference selection. As a freshman, Villalobos
went 9-3 with a 3.55 ERA and 60 strikeouts in
90.1 innings. This past season, Valdosta State
went 43-17 and won the Gulf South Championship.
They were eliminated by #2-ranked Tampa
University in the NCAA South Region Tournament.
McEleney, who
saw time at both second base and shortstop this
season, has signed to play at the University of
San Diego, where the Toreros advanced to the
NCAA Regionals this season and finished 37-22.
While with the Falcons, McEleney patted .292 as
a sophomore with 13 RBI and led the team with
nine stolen bases. As a freshman, he hit .333
and was third on the team with 26 RBI, while
earning All-SCC Honorable Mention.
Both Woods and
Peacock have signed with Linfield (MO) College,
a Division III school that came within two wins
of winning the National Championship. Coached by
three-time World Series champion Scott Brosius,
the Wildcats went 37-13 on the year and won the
Northwest Conference championship. They were
eliminated in the NCAA Tournament by Cortland
College. Peacock, a 1st Team All-SCC selection,
batted a team-high .370 on the year with 14 RBI,
while Woods tied for the team lead with 16
appearances, with 15 coming in relief. He went
1-1 on the year with one save in 21.2 innings.
