Aside from the fourth inning, where he allowed
four runs on six hits, Cerritos College freshman
pitcher
Nick
Quezada (Mayfair HS)
limited Mt. San Antonio College to just one run
on four hits in his 7 1/3 innings of work. But
the four runs was enough for the Mounties (5-8,
1-1), who posted a 5-1 South Coast Conference
win over the Falcons (5-8, 1-1) at Kincaid Field
on Friday afternoon. Cerritos is now scheduled
to host ECC Compton Center on Saturday at noon,
but if the rain comes and the game gets
postponed, it's already scheduled to be made up
at 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
After working out a jam in the first inning,
Quezada (1-2) surrendered six singles in seven
at-bats, as Mt. SAC slowly opened up their
commanding 4-0 lead. From the fourth inning
until when he was replaced with one out in the
eighth inning, Quezada retired 13 of the final
17 batters he faced.
Cerritos struggled against Mountie starting
pitcher Taylor Jimenez (1-1), who scattered four
hits and walked three batters in eight innings
of work. The Falcons broke the shutout bid in
the eighth inning when sophomore second baseman
Max McEleney (Long Beach Wilson
HS) singled home sophomore outfielder
Adam
Peacock (La Mirada HS),
who led off the inning with a walk. The Falcons
had runners at first and second base in the
eighth inning, but freshman
Matt
Palmer (Gahr HS) was
picked off to end the threat.
