For the second straight game, the Cerritos
College baseball team struggled to generate any
offense against a left-handed pitcher. On
Friday, the team was limited to just one run on
four hits against Mt San Antonio College's
Taylor Jimenez. It was more of the same on
Monday, as the Falcons could only muster a
ninth-inning single against Martin Villanueva
of ECC Compton Center, as Cerritos dropped a 9-0
South Coast Conference decision. The team
dropped to 5-9 on the year and 1-2 in conference
play. They will look to turn things around
tomorrow when they travel to Pasadena City
College for another conference game.
As for the Tartars, they jumped on sophomore
starting pitcher
Chris Villalobos (El Rancho HS)
for six earned runs in just 4 2/3 innings. The
Falcons had a hard time getting out of innings,
as Compton was able to string together hits and
opened up a sizable lead. On the day, Cerritos
used five pitchers, who surrendered 14 hits.
All the while, Villanueva was looking to become
the first pitcher to ever throw a no-hitter
against a Falcon baseball team. He did walk five
batters and hit another, but did not allow a hit
until a lead-off single by sophomore third
baseman
Jake
Mayoral (Rocklin HS) to
start the ninth inning. James Gonzalez came on
to record the three outs in the final inning.
