Coming off a week where the Cerritos College
baseball team combined for just one run and five
hits before breaking through with 13 runs in a
15-13 loss, they were in desperate need of a win
against a strong El Camino College squad.
Freshman pitcher
Nick
Quezada (Mayfair HS) was
just what the team needed, as he pitched a
complete game, while a trio of players added a
pair of hits in a 7-2 South Coast Conference win
over the Warriors on Thursday. The Falcons (6-10
overall, 2-3 SCC) will now travel to East Los
Angeles College on Saturday for a noon
conference game.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the fifth inning,
Cerritos took the lead when freshman outfielder
Randy
Garcia (Norwalk HS) drove
home a pair of runs with a one-out single. The
Falcons then broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh
inning when freshman second baseman Matt
Palmer (Gahr HS) singled
home freshman outfielder
Hector
Gomez (John Glenn HS)
before a single and a hit by pitch loaded the
bases. Sophomore designated hitter
Jacob
Eaton (Calvary Chapel HS)
then drove in a run when he was hit by a pitch.
Cerritos broke the game open with three more
runs in the ninth inning when they loaded the
bases. An error brought home the first run,
while a balk accounted for the second and a
bases loaded walk drove in the third. On the
day, Garcia drove in three runs, with Eaton,
sophomore outfielder
Adam
Peacock (La Mirada HS),
sophomore third baseman
Jake
Mayoral (Rocklin HS) and
freshman catcher
Vince
Perry (Cypress HS) all
collecting two hits.
As for Quezada (2-2), he limited the Warriors
(12-5, 3-2) to seven hits on the day, while eh
struck out four batters.
