Five days ago, Cerritos College sophomore
pitcher
Chris Villalobos (El Rancho HS)
tossed a complete-game, five-hit shutout over
East Los Angeles College. On Thursday,
Villalobos (4-2) threw his second straight
complete-game shutout, as he limited Long Beach
City College to just four hits in a 2-0 South
Coast Conference win. The Falcons (8-11, 4-4)
will now travel to Long Beach City on Saturday
for a noon contest.
Throughout the game, Villalobos had the Vikings
guessing, as he recorded 11 ground ball outs. He
saw his defense do a great job behind him,
culminated by a diving stab by freshman first
baseman
Tim Soonthorngarun (John Glenn
HS) to start a double play that ended the
game. Villalobos also worked out of a jam in the
first inning when the Vikings (7-13, 4-4) saw
Chris Jacobs advance to third base, only to be
stranded.
Long Beach had another chance to score in the
sixth inning, but Justin Moore was out on a
fielder's choice when he took off for home when
Villalobos fielded a ground ball by Jacobs and
teamed with third baseman
Jake
Mayoral (Rocklin HS)
to record the out.
Cerritos scored single runs in the third and
fifth innings to account for all the scoring. In
the third, freshman outfielder
Daniel Luera (Mary Star of the
Sea HS) was hit by a pitch to lead off the
inning and was sacrificed to second base by
freshman second baseman
Matt
Palmer (Gahr HS). A bunt
single by sophomore shortstop
Max McEleney (Long Beach Wilson
HS) moved Luera to third base and he scored
on a base hit up the middle by sophomore
outfielder
Adam
Peacock (La Mirada HS).
Peacock drove in the second run on a bunt down
the first base line that plated Palmer, who was
also hit by a pitch to lead off the sixth
inning. Just like in the third inning, McEleney
advanced the runners with a base hit.
