Saturday, Zorn was quickly promoted to the head coaching
position, taking over for Joe Gibbs, a member of the
1959-60 Falcon football teams. This will be the first

Washington Redskins. Zorn, who spent the last seven
seasons as the quarterback coach for the Seattle
Seahawks, played for the Falcons from 1971-72 as a
backup quarterback. He will now work for an organization
that also has two former Cerritos football players on
their staff. Joe Gibbs (1959-60), who recently
stepped down as the head coach and will serve in an
administrative role with the organization, and Rennie
Simmons (1959-60), who is the tight ends coach...[more]

11.10.07 - Defense comes up with big
plays to secure win
Although the Cerritos College
football team was playing without their best cornerback
in their Mission Conference National Division game
against Pasadena City College (6-3 overall, 1-3
conference) on Saturday, the Falcon defense still came
up with interceptions on three consecutive series, as
well as a fourth down stop at the one-yard line. By the
time the game was over, the Falcons snapped a four-game
losing streak, as they defeated the Lancers, 33-21. At
this time, it doesn’t appear as though Cerritos will be
making up their cancelled game from October 27 against
Saddleback College. As a result, the Falcons will finish
the season with a 4-5 overall record and a 1-3 mark in
divisional play. It marks the first time since the 1985
season that Cerritos did not play a 10-game season...[more]
11.03.07 - Falcons done in by
quick-strike attacks
The Cerritos College football
team found the quick-strike aerial attack by Mt. San
Antonio College to be too much to handle on Saturday
night in their Mission Conference National Division
game. The Falcons, who did their best to stay with the
Mounties, wound up losing, 54-27, which dropped their
record to 3-5 on the year and 0-3 in divisional play.
The loss was the fifth in a row for Cerritos, who had
lost their previous four games by a total of 20 points. As
for Mt. SAC, they improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the
division. Cerritos will now travel to Pasadena City

California over the week, the Cerritos College football
game against Saddleback College scheduled for Saturday
night has been cancelled. As a result of the poor air
quality, the Gauchos have not been able to practice,
while Saddleback College will be shut down until Monday,

annual Homecoming Game...[more]
10.20.07 - Overtime loss another one
that got away
When looking at the Cerritos
College football team’s record, at first glance it would
appear the team wasn’t doing so well. Usually when a
team is 3-4 on the season, it’s considered to be a team
in a rebuilding stage. Look closer at the scores, and
the Falcons could easily be in contention for a
post-season bid. After their 22-16 overtime loss at
Riverside College on Saturday night, the team has now
lost two overtime games this season and the combined
points in their four setbacks has been 20 points. In
each of the games, Cerritos was in position to either
tie the game late or win before going into overtime.
They will give it another shot next Saturday night, when
the team hosts Saddleback College at 7:00 p.m. in their
annual Homecoming Game...[more]
10.13.07 - Injuries hurt Falcons in
23-17 loss
At the start of the season,
the Cerritos College football team felt that one of
their strongest positions would be the offensive line,
With four sophomores returning, including returning
All-American tackle
Mike Diaz
(Schurr HS), along with All-American candidate
Phillip Garcia
(Schurr HS) at the other tackle, the Falcons
appeared to be able to protect their quarterback and run
the ball with effectiveness. However, in the last two
games, Garcia went down against Fullerton College, while
Diaz went down against Santa Ana College on Saturday
afternoon in the team’s Mission Conference National
Division opener. The result was a 23-17 loss, while
sophomore quarterback
AJ Toscano
(El Rancho HS) was sacked seven times. Cerritos
(3-3 overall, 0-1 National Division) must now regroup,
as they travel to Riverside College for a 5:00 p.m. game
next Saturday...[more]
09.29.07 - Pendulum swings for
Fullerton in the end
With as many momentum swings
as there were in the Cerritos College football game at
home against Fullerton College Saturday night, it would
come as no surprise of people were requesting Dramamine
by the end of the game. After three lead changes, three
missed fourth down conversions deep in opposing
territory, 15-of-27 third down conversions and several
key turnovers, it all came down to a third down
conversion by the Hornets, who escaped Falcon Stadium
with a 29-23 win. The win by Fullerton improves their
record to 4-1, while Cerritos drops to 3-2, as the
Mission Conference enjoys a bye next weekend before they
begin divisional play...[more]
09.22.07 - Crosstown Cup goes to
Falcons in 22-12 win
In the latest installment of
the Cerritos-Long Beach City football rivalry, the
Falcon defense spent the first three quarters dominating
not only the statistics, but the numbers on the
scoreboard. Through the first three quarters, Cerritos
held a 15-0 lead and even went up 22-0 before the
Vikings scored two late touchdowns to finish the score a
22-12. The win also secures that the Falcons will be the
recipient of the annual Crosstown Cup, a perpetual
trophy that is awarded to the winner of the game. With
the win, Cerritos is now 3-1 on the season and lead the
overall series 27-21-1, as this marked the 49th
anniversary of their rivalry...[more]
09.15.07 - Penalties hurt Cerritos in
three-overtime loss
It has usually been said that
to find out how a football team is going to play during
the season, it will show by the third game of the year.
If that rule were to hold true, then the Cerritos
College football team would need to make some big
strides if they are going to improve on their
performance Saturday night. The Falcons, off to their
first 2-0 start since 2002, dropped a 22-20 Mission
Conference crossover game to Golden West College (2-1)
in three overtimes. The Falcons (2-1), who turned the
ball over four times, were also victimized by penalties
throughout the game. If the team is going to turn the
corner, they will have to do so against their cross-town
rival Long Beach City College next Saturday night at
Falcon Stadium. The game will also decide the residence
of the Crosstown Cup for the next year...[more]
09.08.07 - Team off to first 2-0 start
in five years
The Cerritos College football
team picked the right time to win their first game on
their new home turf. After going winless at home last
season, the Falcons posted a 15-6 non-conference win
against Ventura College Saturday night. In attendance
for the game were 21 players and coaches from the
school’s first football team from 1957, after they were
treated to a pre-game reception by the college, athletic
department and football team. The 2-0 start by Cerritos
is their first since the 2002 season when they started
the year 5-0. The Falcons will play their second of four
straight home games next Saturday when they face Golden
West College at 7:00 p.m...[more]
09.05.07 - College to honor first
football team
At this Saturday’s Cerritos
College home football game against Ventura College at
7:00 p.m. there will be a special group of fans in
attendance. Back in 1957, the college was experiencing
their first football season in the history of the school
and that team led the community on a ride that took them
to the pinnacle of community college football. The
Falcon team of 1957 not only won the Western State
Conference, they were selected to play in the
prestigious Junior Rose Bowl in Pasadena against
Arlington (TX) College, now known as the University of
Texas at Arlington. Although the team was defeated,
21-12, they introduced the brand new school and
community to a football season many look back on with
fond memories...[more]
09.01.07 - Falcons open season with
63-36 win
The Cerritos College football
team wasted no time in showing their opponent that this
year's squad has the ability to strike on offense very
quickly and without warning. Just three plays into the
season, the Falcons saw sophomore running back
Lorenzo Goode
(Hermitage (WV) HS/Allan Hancock College) bust
through three tackles on his way to a 44-yard touchdown.
The quick strike was one of many for the Falcons on the
night, as they opened their season Saturday night with a
63-36 win over Compton College in a game that was played
at Cabrillo High School...[more]
08.25.07 - Location of season opener
moved
The season opener for the
Cerritos College football team, which was originally
scheduled to be played at Compton College at 1:00 p.m.
on Saturday, September 1, has been moved to Cabrillo
High School in Long Beach. The game will now be played
at 7:00 p.m. on the same day. The reason for the switch
in location was due to the poor playing conditions at
Compton College. There was talk of where the game was
going to be moved to, with conversations that the game
might be played at Falcon Stadium...[more] |
