11.22.08 - Cerritos ends season with bowl loss
Faced with their 16th third down
situation late in the fourth quarter, Palomar
College quarterback Matt Christian connected with
wide receiver Maurice Patterson for nine yards and
their 11th conversion of the game, and the Comets
ran out the clock in their 38-33 win over Cerritos
College in the Golden Empire Bowl at Bakersfield
College on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons, who just
missed out on advancing to the playoffs, finished
the season 7-4, while Palomar concluded the season
8-3.
Down 38-27 in the fourth quarter,
Cerritos sophomore running back
Duane Bowen (St. John Bosco HS)
powered his way into the end zone from four yards
out with 6:20 remaining. Bowen, who rushed for a
first down on the previous play, bowled over Nate
Paopao on third down and then David Matu to reach
the end zone. The Falcons chose to go for a
two-point conversion, but sophomore quarterback
Jeffrey Fischer's (Lakewood HS)
pass attempt was incomplete...[more]
11.16.08 - Falcons selected to play in Golden
Empire Bowl
Just one yard away from winning a
share of the National Division Central Conference
championship and a berth in the Southern California
Regional Playoffs, the Cerritos College football
team has been selected to play in the Golden Empire
Bowl at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at Bakersfield College against
Palomar College. The Falcons, who lost, 35-32 to El
Camino College on Saturday night, decided to go for
the win at the Warrior two-yard line on the last
play of the game instead of attempting a 19-yard
field goal that would have sent the game into
overtime. As a result of the loss, Cerritos (7-3)
finished in third place in conference play, while
both Mt. San Antonio College and the Warriors
advanced to the playoffs...[more]
11.15.08 - Last play comes up short in loss to El
Camino
With a playoff spot on the line
and the line of scrimmage the El Camino 2-yard line
with seven seconds left in regulation, Cerritos
College head football coach
Frank
Mazzotta decided to go for the win instead
of a potential 19-yard field goal in a 35-32
National Division Central Conference game at El
Camino College on Saturday night. Sophomore fullback
Junior Tivao (Paramount HS) attempted
to run the ball up the middle, but was stopped shy
of the goal line, and the Falcons dropped a 35-32
contest to the Warriors. A win would have given
Cerritos at least a share of the conference
championship and first round home game in the
Southern California Regional Playoffs. But, with
their 7-3 overall mark and third place finish, the
best the Falcons can do is receive a post-season
non-playoff bowl game. If they get the bowl bid, it
would be the first for the team since the 2003 year.
Cerritos was also looking for their first win at El
Camino since the 1998 season...[more]
11.08.08 - Cerritos upsets Mounties in three
overtimes
Cerritos College sophomore safety
Joshua Lomeli (La Mirada HS)
intercepted Nick Lamaison in the end zone to prevent
Mt. San Antonio College from scoring on their
possession in the third overtime of their National
Division Central Conference game at Falcon Stadium
on Saturday night. Then, on Cerritos' possession and
faced with second-and-goal from the five-yard line,
sophomore quarterback
Jeffrey
Fischer (Lakewood HS) hit
sophomore tight end
Anthony
Recinos (Norwalk HS) in the
corner of the end zone for the game-winning
touchdown to give the Falcons a 44-38 victory.
Entering the game, the Mounties were ranked #1 in
the nation, while Cerritos was #25. With the win,
Cerritos (7-2 overall, 4-1 division) and Mt. San
Antonio (8-1, 4-1) are tied for first place with El
Camino College in the Central Conference with one
game remaining. The Falcons will travel to El Camino
next Saturday for a 6:00 p.m. game.
A win over the Warriors would
give the Falcons at least a share of the conference
championship and the top spot, while they will host
a first-round playoff game. The eight teams that
make the playoffs consist of the first and second
place teams from the National Division and the two
American Division conference champions and play for
a shot at the state championship. A loss against El
Camino could drop Cerritos into third place and hope
for a non-playoff bowl game...[more]

Fischer (Lakewood HS)

team to a 45-27 National Division Central Conference
win over College of the Desert on Saturday night.
With the win, the Falcons are now 6-2 on the season
and 3-1 in divisional play with two games remaining.

Antonio College at 7:00 p.m. next Saturday in their
biggest game of the season.

team up 10-0 when he connected with sophomore wide
receiver
Joshua
Robbins (La Mirada HS) for a

quarter. On the play, sophomore wide receiver
Sheldon Smith (Culver City HS)
threw a great block at the 20-yard line that cleared
the way for Robbins. Cerritos took a 3-0 lead on
their first drive when freshman kicker
Pedro Puga
(La Habra HS) booted a 25-yard field. The
Falcons have now scored on their first drive of
every game this year...[more]

yards on 14 plays, which culminated on a 7-yard
scoring pass from sophomore quarterback
Jeffrey
Fischer (Lakewood HS) to

Employing a bend-but-don't-break
defense the first three quarters of their game
against Ventura College on Saturday night, the
Cerritos College football team bent as far as they
could on the last play of the game. With the Pirates
on the verge of pulling out a win, Falcon freshman

Ventura quarterback Lee Mondol on the last play of
the game, securing an 18-13 win for Cerritos. With
the win, the Falcons improved to 3-1 on the season,
while the Pirates dropped to 3-1. The team will now
travel to Chaffey College for a 6:00 p.m. game next
Saturday.
After opening up a 12-0 lead through
the first three quarters, Cerritos saw the Pirates
score twice on Mondol touchdown
passes to take a 13-12 lead
with 5:15 left in the fourth quarter. On the ensuing
kickoff, Pirate kicker David Mietnzer sent a low
kick that was taken by freshman
Marshawn
Friloux (Bellflower HS) at the
Ventura 46-yard line. The Falcons drove the 46 yards
on seven plays
and retook the lead on a one-yard plunge by
sophomore
Junior
Tivao (Paramount HS), his
third touchdown of the game with 1:05 left in the
game. The two-point attempt was missed and Cerritos
just needed to shut down Ventura to collect the won...[more]

In their highly-anticipated
rivalry game against Long Beach City
College, the Cerritos College football team
met a team that was not only interested in
swiping the Crosstown Cup that goes to the
winner of the game, they were also looking
to swipe the football. Five Falcon turnovers
led to 21 Vikings points, as LBCC posted

night. The loss dropped Cerritos to 2-1 on
the year, while Long Beach City improved to
2-1. The Falcons will now host Ventura

quarterback
Jeffrey
