Jim Chambers is in
his first year with the Cerritos College
coaching staff, but has 25 years of
experience. He has logged many seasons as a
defensive backs coach, now focusing his
attention on the safeties for the Falcons.
From 2002-07, Chambers has coached the
secondary at El Camino College, where the
Falcons have had many battles over the
years. During his tenure, Chambers
contributed to several Mission Conference
championships, while several of his
All-American players have made it to the
National Football League. Chambers is a
graduate of Banning High School (1979),
where they won three consecutive Los Angeles
City Football Championships (1976-78),
finishing in the top five in the state, as
well as the top 10 in the country each year.
Chambers then attended
San Diego Mesa College as a wide receiver
and was selected All-South Coast Conference
as a sophomore. He then attended Cal State
Northridge, where he was chosen All-Western
Football Conference honors as a defensive
back in 1982. Chambers went on to earn his
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Kinesiology in
1984.
He began his coaching
career in the San Fernando Valley from
1982-87 and then at Redondo Union High from
1988-89. From 1990-96 Chambers coached at
Lynwood High and was appointed their
Athletic Director. In November of 1996,
Chambers was named the National Football
League’s High School Coach of the Week and
was later nominated for the NFL High School
Coach of the Year. During his coaching
career, Chambers has also worked at Los
Angeles Harbor College (1997) and most
recently at El Camino College (2002-07).
Chambers, who is married
and has five children, lives in Cerritos. |
