With
the early signing period passed, the Cerritos
College football team has announced that four of
their players have signed with four-year
universities and are already attending classes at
their new colleges. Heading that list is
All-American sophomore tight end
Clark Evans (Los Alamitos HS),
who signed with the University of Hawaii. Sophomore
strong safety
Daniel Roundtree (American
Heritage, FL HS) has inked with Southern
Methodist University, while sophomore linebacker
Dominick Sierra (La Habra HS)
will be playing at Northern Colorado University. The
fourth signing is sophomore offensive lineman
Brandon Davidson (Long Beach
Millikan HS), who has signed with Benedictine
(KS) College.
Evans, who transferred to the Falcons from the University of
Colorado, had a flair for making acrobatic catches
during the season, as the Falcons captured their
second straight Northern Conference championship and
appearance in the Southern California championship
game. After finishing the season with 31 receptions
for 444 yards (14.3 average) and a team-high nine
touchdowns, Evans was named 1st Team California
Community College Football Coaches Association
All-American. He will be joining a Hawaii team that
just named Norm Chow as their head coach and are
coming off a 6-7 season. The previous coaching staff
did not employ a tight end, and Evans will be looked
upon as one of their main options from that position
next season.
One of the leaders of the secondary, Roundtree finished the
season tied for fourth on the team with 46 tackles,
while he also had four tackles for loss and a pair
of pass breakups. A transfer from El Camino
College, Roundtree is the first Falcon to sign with
SMU since Steve Eades in 1974, and joins a secondary
that loses five players to graduation. Last season,
SMU posted an 8-5 record and defeated Pittsburgh,
28-6 in the BBVA Compass Bowl. They finished 5-3 in
the Conference USA East Division.
Sierra finished the year with 37 tackles and was third on the
team with seven tackles for loss and fourth with
seven quarterback hurries. He was also a key member
of the special teams squad while starting at
linebacker. Sierra will help turn around a Northern
Colorado team that went 0-11 last year and played
with a very young linebacker group. Davidson helped
anchor an offensive line that saw the Falcons roll
up a school-record 4,943 yards on the season and
average 28.9 points a game. He will be joining
a Benedictine team that went 9-3 last year and
advanced to the NAIA Championship Series, where they
were defeated by #3-seeded Georgetown (KY) College,
21-7. The team loses three offensive linemen that
earned All-Heart of America Athletic Conference
honors..
