The Cerritos
College men's basketball team made a quick exit out
of the Glendale Tournament, as they were defeated in
their first two games to get eliminated. In the
opener, they dropped an 81-74 decision to Antelope
Valley College and then were defeated by Orange
Coast 77-60 to drop their season record to 4-8. The
team will now travel up north to the San Jose City
Tournament and open on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. against
Santa Rosa College.
The opening game
saw sophomore guard
Gregory
Preer (St. Vincent St. Mary (OH)
HS/Ashland (OH) University) score a season-high
26 points off the bench on 7-of-12 shooting from the
field, with four three-pointers. But it wasn't
enough, as the Falcons turned the ball over 18 times
and missed nine free throws. Freshman guard
Brian
Barner (Palisades HS) did add
12 points (four three-pointers), while sophomore
guard
Van Girard
(Gahr HS) contributed 10 points and a
game-high 11 rebounds.
The end came
quickly against the Pirates, as turnovers continued
to haunt Cerritos. They played from behind the
entire way and committed 23 turnovers, despite
double-digit scoring from three players. Girard (12
points, eight rebounds) led the way, while freshman
Marcellus Jackson (Independence HS)
finished with 11 points and 11 caroms. Freshman
guard
Sean
Chennault (Ben Franklin (PA) HS)
netted 10 points and six five rebounds, while Barner
dished out four assists despite being limited to
just six points.
