In
what is turning out to be the most miserable season in
the history of Cerritos College men’s basketball, the
Falcons suffered their sixth loss of the season by 20
points or more, as they were defeated by cross-town
rival Long Beach City College at home on Friday night,
86-66. The setback puts the Falcons season record at
6-15, while they are now 0-1 in South Coast Conference
South Division play, while the Vikings improved to 13-10
overall and 1-0 in the division.
Cerritos will receive a bye next
Wednesday before they travel to Los Angeles Harbor
College for a 7:30 p.m. game next Friday.
A little rally at the end of the
first half in the tune of a three-pointer by freshman
guard
Demetrius Turner (King-Drew HS) got the
Falcons to within 36-24 at intermission. But there was
no way anyone would ever predict the scorching hot hand
of Viking guard Deon Tresvant in the second half. After
scoring a quiet two points in the first 20 minutes,
Tresvant poured in eight three-pointers and at one
point, scored 14 straight points for LBCC, as he
finished with 28 points in the game.
Despite being down by as many as 30
points in the second half, Cerritos never quit and
continued to play aggressively, as they out-scored the
Vikings, 12-2 in the final minutes.
Freshman forward
Travele Jones
(Inglewood HS), scored 18 of his team-high 20
points in the second half and also added seven rebounds
and three blocked shots. Sophomore guard
Lawrence
Robinson (Long Beach Poly HS) added 10
points, four rebounds and three assists, while freshman
guard
Andre Zeumault (Garfield, WA HS) came off
the bench to chip in 10 points and four rebounds. |
