Cerritos College freshman guard
Demetrius Turner (King-Drew HS)
drained 9-of-10 shots, including three three-pointers
for 25 points to help lead the men's basketball team to
an 86-80 win over Mt. San Jacinto College in the first
round of the Irvine Valley Tournament on Thursday. With
the win, the Falcons (2-1) will take on College of the
Canyons on Friday at 5:00 p.m. in one of the two
semi-final games.
In the
first half, Cerritos was an electric 17-of-26 (65.4%)
from the field, including six three-pointers, as they
posted a 51-41 lead over the Eagles. Although their shot
production dropped off in the second half (39.3%), they
had enough in their tank to hold off any runs by Mt. San
Jacinto to post the 10-point win.
In addition to the season-high 25 points by Turner, the
Falcons received 12 points, six rebounds and three
blocked shots from freshman forward
Travele Jones
(Inglewood HS), while freshman guard
Andre
Zeumault (Garfield, WA HS) came
off the bench to contribute 10 points, three rebounds,
two assists and two steals. Another freshman guard,
Jerell
Elder (Long Beach Millikan HS)
added eight points, five rebounds, a team-high five
assists and three steals, with freshman forward
DeAndre
Ferguson (Lynwood HS) finished
with nine points and four rebounds before fouling out. |
