Despite holding a slim 34-32 halftime
lead in their semi-final game against College of the
Canyons at the Irvine Valley Tournament on Friday, the
Cerritos College men's basketball team couldn't hold off
the Cougars, who posted a 78-63 win. With the loss, the
Falcons (2-2) will play Irvine Valley College on
Saturday for third place, while College of the Canyons
(4-0) will play in the championship game against
Cuyamaca College.
Leading the way for the Falcons was
freshman guard
Demetrius
Turner
(King-Drew
HS),
who scored 16 points and dished off three assists. It
was a balanced offensive attack for Cerritos, but only
Turner and freshman guard
Arthur Clark
(Martin
Luther King HS),
who scored 10 points, finished in double-figures.
In the first half, the Falcons shot
just 37% from the field, but led by two points. They
shot the same percentage in the second half, but that's
where the Cougars took the lead and posted the win, as
they connected on 17-of-27 shots (63%) and were led by
Jacob Briggs, who had 21 points.
Freshman forward
DeAndre
Ferguson
(Lynwood
HS)
added eight points and four rebounds, while freshman
guard
Jerell Elder
(Long
Beach Millikan HS)
finished with seven points, four rebounds and three
assists. Freshman forward
Travele Jones
(Inglewood
HS)
led the team with five rebounds and four steals, while
also scoring six points. |
