Freshman forward
Travele Jones
(Inglewood
HS)
scored a season-high 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting to
lead the Cerritos College men's basketball team to a
61-50 victory over the host Lasers in the third place
game of the Irvine Valley Tournament on Saturday. The
win by the Falcons improves their record to 3-2 on the
season and will now play a South Coast Conference
cross-over game at Los Angeles Trade-Tech College on
Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
In addition to his 18 points, Jones
also added six rebounds, while freshman guard
Demetrius
Turner
(King-Drew
HS)
finished with 15 points and three rebounds to earn
all-tournament honors. Helping out the team's winning
cause was freshman guard
Andre
Zeumault
(Garfield,
WA HS),
who drained three three-pointers to finish with nine
points and also hauled in five rebounds.
Cerritos took a 35-27 lead at
halftime, which forced the Lasers to shoot more from the
outside, where they finished just 7-of-25 from beyond
three-point range. Aggressive rebounding by the Falcons
helped them control the tempo of the game and finished
with a 12-rebound edge (42-30) in the game.
Freshman forward
DeAndre
Ferguson
(Lynwood
HS)
shared the team lead with seven rebounds with freshman
guard
Arthur Clark
(Martin
Luther King HS),
who each had four points. The Falcons also converted
their free throws when they needed to, as they made
11-of-13 on the day. |
