By looking at the final
score, it would be difficult to believe that
the South Coast Conference men’s basketball
game between Cerritos College and Los
Angeles Harbor College was tied at 53-53
with 13:13 left in the second half. That’s
when the game was suspended when LA Harbor’s
Antonio Hodge broke the backboard on a dunk
on January 30. But, during the completion of
the game, the Falcons (12-13, 1-3) looked
like the game should never have been close,
as they outscored the Seahawks (3-22, 0-4),
33-18 to post an 86-71 victory. Cerritos
will now start the second half of divisional
play on Friday at 7:30 p.m. when they host
El Camino College.
Accounting for 16 of the team’s points
was sophomore forward
Travele Jones (Inglewood HS),
who converted a three-point play in getting
the team up by double-digits, while he also
stole an inbounds pass and dunked it to put
the game completely out of reach. By the end
of the contest, Jones had a season-high 30
points, along with 13 rebounds. Also
contributing seven points in the completed
portion of the game was sophomore guard
Aaron Thompson (Washington Prep
HS), who finished with 12 points, along
with four rebounds, four assists and four
steals. Freshman guard
Van Girard (Gahr HS) had five
of his eight rebounds and added four more
points to his game total of seven, with
sophomore guard
Aaron King (Mayfair HS)
checking in with nine points.
The
Falcons used a swarming defense to force 14
Seahawk turnovers in the final 13:13 of the
game, with Cerritos using that to score 17
fast break points.
