After beating Los Angeles
Southwest College in their final South Coast
Conference regular season game, the Cerritos
College men’s basketball team not only
secured a share of second place in the South
Division, they earned themselves a home game
in the play-in round of the Southern
California Regional Playoffs. The Falcons
(16-13), who went in as the second place
team ahead of El Camino College from the
division, are seeded #14 and will host
#19-seeded Santa Monica College (17-14) at
7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Cerritos earned their second place
finished with an 89-76 win over the first
place Cougars on Friday night. When breaking
a tie to determine who gets seeded ahead of
another team in their conference, the first
tie-breaker is head-to-head competition,
with the Falcons and El Camino splitting
their two games. The second tie-breaker is
how they did against the first place team,
with the Cerritos win over LA Southwest
earning them the second spot.
This
will mark the first time the Falcons will be
facing Santa Monica this season. The
Corsairs finished in a tie for fifth place
in the Western State Conference South
Division. The winner of this game will
travel to face #3-seeded Los Angeles Trade
Tech College (25-4) and 7:30 p.m. on
Saturday.
Ticket prices for the game are $8 for
general admission, while students, faculty,
staff, senior citizens and children 12 and
under are $6.
