Riding their longest winning
streak of the season, the Cerritos College
men’s basketball team blew out host East Los
Angeles College on Wednesday night, 81-54,
in a South Coast Conference crossover game.
The Falcons (11-10), winners of four games
in a row, will now start South Division
games on Friday at 7:30 p.m. when they
travel to El Camino College. The game will
also be the fourth in five straight road
games.
In
the 27-point win, the Falcons had four
players score in double-figures, while 11 of
the 13 players in uniform had at least one
rebound. Cerritos jumped out early against
the Huskies (6-14) and led 22-6 with 11:18
remaining in the first half and never looked
back. The lead stayed over 20 points the
remainder of the game.
Sophomore guard
Aaron Thompson (Washington Prep
HS) led the team with 18 points, 10
rebounds and five rebounds, while freshman
guard
Van Girard (Gahr HS) came off
the bench and netted all six of his shots
and concluded the game with a season-high 12
points and nine rebounds.
It
was a group effort in the win, as players
scored in bunches throughout the game.
Sophomore guard
Darrell Thomas (King/Drew HS)
nailed a couple of shots and finished with a
season-high seven points, while freshman
guard
Wayne Chapman (Bellflower HS)
showed his shooting rage, as he made 4-of-6
shots and added 10 points and five assists.
Sophomore forward
Travele Jones (Inglewood HS)
added a quiet 13 points, but made some noise
on defense, blocking five shots. Sophomore
guard
Aaron King (Mayfair HS) also
scored seven points and pulled down five
rebounds, as they team converted 54% of
their shots.
