The Cerritos
College men’s basketball team opened the
Irvine Valley Tournament by posting a 60-48
win over Cuyamaca College on Thursday night.
With the win, the Falcons (2-1) will now
face the tournament host in a semi-final
game on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
The Falcons were able to
pull away from the Coyotes (1-2) by
converting their free throws in the second
half, as the team made 13-of-16 in the
second stanza and 19-of-25 on the night.
Cerritos also received balanced scoring,
with three players scoring in double
figures. Sophomore guard
Aaron King (Mayfair HS) came
off the bench to score a team-high 13
points, while sophomore forward
Travele Jones (Inglewood HS)
finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Also coming off the bench to provide some
offense was freshman guard
Van Girard (Gahr HS), who had
11 points.
Sophomore guard
Aaron Thompson (Washington Prep
HS), who recently signed with Cal State
Fullerton, pulled down a team-high 11
rebounds to go with his six points and
team-high five assists. The Falcon defense
held Cuyamaca to 33% shooting from the field
and did not allow any players to score in
double-figures.
