On June
24, 2008, Jesse Teplitzky was named the
eighth head coach in Cerritos College men’s
basketball history. He takes over a program
than has won 1,128 games in their 51-year
history, as well as five state championships
and 20 conference championships. He was
hired after Gary Cain stepped down to assume
the position of Coordinator of Judicial
Affairs on campus. Prior to taking over the
Falcon program, Teplitzky spent the 2007-08
season as the head coach at Santa Monica
College, who saw their season end at the
hands of Cerritos in the Southern California
Regional Playoffs. He led the Corsairs to a
17-14 record, which was the school’s first
winning season and playoff appearance since
2002.
Prior to his one year
with Santa Monica College as their head
coach, Teplitzky spent time as an assistant
coach under Mike Dunlap at Metro State
College in Denver, CO. While serving on the
staff, Metro State won two NCAA Division II
championships in 2000 and 2002 and won four
consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic
Conference championships. For his part
during the most successful time in the
school’s history, Teplitzky was honored as
an inductee into the Metro State Athletics
Hall of Fame in 2006. After his time with
Metro State, Teplitzky joined John
Peterson’s staff at Ohlone College in
Fremont, CA, where he spent three seasons
and helped lead the team to the Coast
Conference North Division championship in
two out of three seasons. He then moved on
to Chabot College for two years under head
coach Denny Aye before taking over the head
coaching position at Santa Monica College.
For short time during the 2005 season,
Teplitzky took over as the interim head
coach at Chabot College.
Teplitzky attended
Bishop Machebeuf High School in Denver, Co,
where he was an all-league performer in
basketball and baseball, while also playing
on the football team. He then transferred to
Metropolitan State College of Denver, where
he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Human
Performance and Sport in 2000. He then
earned his Master’s degree in Physical
Education from the University of Northern
Colorado in 2002. Teplitzky, 30, is single
and resides in Santa Monica. |
