For the Cerritos
College men's basketball team, the 2008-09 season
has been one of growing pains. The Falcons, with a
only three returning players and a new coaching
staff, dropped their sixth game in a row, a 79-60
home court decision at the hands of Pasadena City
College in a South Coast Conference cross-over game.
The night didn't start well, as a scoreboard
malfunction delayed the game 45 minutes. But for the
Falcons, who trailed the entire night, things didn't
get any better. Cerritos (4-11) will try to snap
their losing streak when they host Mt. San Antonio
College at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Facing a much
taller Lancer team, the Falcons still tried to work
the ball inside, and saw five of their shots
blocked. However, they did get their fair share of
fouls called, which sent them to the free throw
line. But the shooting troubles continued there, as
they converted just 9-of-25 on the night.
Pasadena City
(14-7), however, was clicking on all cylinders, as
ChaRunn Jones was hitting from the outside and Tyree
McCary was getting the ball inside. In posting a
42-25 lead at the half, the Lancers saw eight
different players score, while five finished the
night in double-figures.
Falcon freshman
Marcellus Jackson (Independence HS)
did score 13 points and led all rebounders with 16,
while sophomore
Van Girard
(Gahr HS) contributed 11 points, eight
rebounds, four assists and four steals. But as a
team, the Falcons made just 37% of their shots.
Jones and Elliott Berry led Pasadena City with 14
points each, while McCary finishing with 11 points,
nine rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots.
