Through the first
round of the South Coast Conference South Division
play, the Cerritos College men's basketball team is
locked in a tie for first place with Long Beach City
College at 4-1. The Falcons, who won their third
game in a row with their 71-50 win at Los Angeles
Harbor College on Friday night, are now 8-13 on the
season. They get a break from divisional play on
Wednesday when they travel to Los Angeles Trade-Tech
College for a 7:30 p.m. crossover game.
In the win over
the Seahawks (4-20, 1-4), Cerritos shot 56% from the
field and rode a team-high 19 points off the bench
from sophomore guard
Van Girard
(Gahr HS). He netted 9-of-13 of his shots
on the night and added eight rebounds, as the
Falcons opened up a 37-22 halftime lead and never
looked back.
Posting a
double-double was freshman forward
Marcellus
Jackson (Independence HS), who
made 6-of-9 shots and finished with 13 points to go
along with his 14 rebounds. As a team, the Falcons
out-rebounded the Seahawks, 48-27, with 14 of those
caroms coming on the offensive end. Sophomore guard
Gregory
Preer (St. Vincent-St. Mary (OH)
HS/Ashland (OH) University) was also a key to
the win with his 14 points and eight rebounds.
Freshman guard
Jeremy Pope
(Mayfair HS) dished out eight assists,
while freshman guard
Sean
Chenneault (Ben Franklin (PA) HS)
added seven points and four rebounds.
