The Cerritos
College men's basketball team opened up a convincing
51-30 halftime lead against host Pasadena City
College on Friday in a South Coast Conference
crossover game and rode that to an 86-73 victory.
The win, the third in a row for Cerritos, improves
their record to 6-3 on the year. They will now
compete in the Riverside Tournament, with their
opening contest scheduled for Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
against Riverside College.
In getting out to
such a big lead, the Falcons were able to do so with
contributions from the entire team. Two of the five
starters scored in double-figures, while two more
came off the bench. Sophomore guard
Ken Brown
(Soldan, MO HS/Southwest Tennessee CC) had
a hot hand off the bench and drained 6-of-12 shots,
with three coming from three-point range. He
finished with 17 points, while also dishing off
three assists. He was joined off the bench by
sophomore forward
Marcellus
Jackson (Independence HS), who
netted 8-of-12 shots to finish with 16 points and
led the team with nine rebounds.
As a team,
Cerritos shot 50% from the field and pulled down 45
rebounds (17 offensive). Sophomore guard
Jeremy Pope
(Mayfair HS), who scored over 30 points in
the last two games, was limited to just 11 on the
night, but did post five assists, while freshman
forward
Willie
Edwards (Moreno Valley HS)
also scored 11 points to go along with his seven
rebounds. Sophomore guard
Wayne
Chapman (Bellflower HS)
chipped in with nine points, three rebounds and
three assists, while freshman forward
