The Cerritos
College men's basketball team put themselves in a
hole against San Bernardino Valley College on
Saturday at the Riverside Tournament. The Falcons,
who lost the game, 75-66, committed 28 turnovers and
made it to the free throw line just five times in
the contest. The loss, the second in a row for
Cerritos, drops their record to 7-5 on the year, as
they prepare to enter the Glendale Tournament. They
get underway on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. against
College of the Canyons.
The Falcons shot
well from the field (51%) but put themselves in a
deficit with their miscues and could not take
advantage of the mistakes the Indians made. But the
telling stat was the amount of trips to the free
throw line. Cerritos was 4-for-5, while San
Bernardino went 21-for-28, with the majority of them
coming in the final few minutes as the Falcons
looked to get back into the game.
The team did have
balanced scoring, as four players scored in
double-figures. Sophomore guard
Ken
Brown (Soldan, MO
HS/Southwest Tennessee CC) came off the bench
to lead the team with 14 points, while sophomore
guard
Jeremy Pope
(Mayfair HS) added 13 points, which
included a trio of three-pointers. Sophomore guard
Wayne Chapman (Bellflower HS)
finished with 11 points, while sophomore guard
Brandon Hicks (Bellflower HS)
added 10 points and four rebounds off the bench. The
team played without sophomore forward
Marcellus
Jackson (Independence HS), who
is second on the team in scoring and leads them in
rebounding.
