Team secures share of conference title

The Cerritos College men's basketball team
earned at least a share of the South Coast
Conference South Division championship on Friday
night with their 89-79 win over El Camino
College at The Aviary. The Falcons (17-10, 6-1),
who close out the regular season next Wednesday,
host second place Long Beach City College, who
is 5-2 in the division, but pinned the lone
division loss on Cerritos in their first
meeting.
In the win over the Warriors, the Falcons jumped
out to a quick 12-3 lead and continued to push
that advantage to a 38-26 lead at intermission.
They saw their lead swell to as many as 18
points (58-40) with 12:35 left in the second
half on a three-point play by sophomore guard
Sean Chennault (Ben Franklin,
PA HS).
It was a group effort in the win by Cerritos,
with sophomore guard
Ken
Brown (Soldan, MO HS/Southwest
Tennessee CC) leading the team with 20
points and six rebounds off the bench. Nine of
the 10 players that saw action scored, while
sophomore forward
Marcellus Jackson (Independence
HS) added 12 points, eight rebounds and
four blocked shots. As for freshman forward
Willie Edwards (Moreno Valley
HS), he accounted for 11 points, while the
duo of sophomore guard
Jeremy
Pope (Mayfair HS) and
Chennault each added nine points. Isaiah Jenkins
(25 points) and Wendell lee (23 points, 10
rebounds) led the Warriors.
