Down for most of
the first half, the Cerritos College men's
basketball team turned on the afterburners in the
second half and pulled away for a 67-56 South Coast
Conference South Division win at El Camino College
on Friday night. With the win, the Falcons are now
13-9 overall and 3-0 in the division. They will now
travel to Long Beach City for a 7:30 p.m. game next
Wednesday.
Sophomore guard
Ken
Brown (Soldan, MO HS/Southwest
Tennessee CC) broke a 40-40 tie with a
three-pointer with 10:41 remaining, followed by a
trey from freshman
Greg
Howell (Artesia HS). From that
point on, it was all Falcons, as they opened up a
15-point lead after a Brown basket and free throw.
After being limited to just one free throw in the
first half, Brown came to life in the second half
with 15 points and also added five rebounds and
three assists.
As part of the
comeback, Howell took a pair of charges that seemed
to ignite the intensity of the Falcons on offense.
Sophomore forward
Marcellus
Jackson (Independence HS)
accounted for 13 points and 12 boards off the bench,
while freshman
Willie
Edwards (Moreno Valley HS) was
solid with seven points, nine rebounds, three
assists and three steals.
Sophomore guard
Wayne
Chapman (Bellflower HS) had a
great all-around game, as he posted seven points,
six rebounds, six assists and four steals. Sophomore
guard
Sean
Chennault (Ben Franklin, PA HS)
had the same impact on the game with his four
points, seven rebounds and two assists, with
sophomore
Jeremy Pope
(Mayfair HS) adding 11 points and three
rebounds.
