Running with the best in Southern
California at the Southern California Preview Meet at
Irvine Regional Park on Saturday, Cerritos College
sophomore men’s cross country athlete Daniel
Clifford-Sorenson (Lakewood HS) showed why he
is considered one of the elite. Clifford-Sorenson
finished the four-mile run in a time of 20:45.80, which
placed him fifth out of the 298 runners and helped the
Falcons come in 11th place as a team.
Cerritos finished with 335 team points, as College of
the Canyons won the meet with 83 points. Three other
South Coast Conference teams finished ahead of the
Falcons in the team scoring, with Mt. San Antonio
College placing third with 174 points.
As for
Clifford-Sorenson, his time was just shy of coming in
fourth place, as Riverside College’s Mike Munoz edged
him out with a time of 20:42.60, while he was the first
runner from the SCC to win the race.
The next
Cerritos runner to cross the finish line was sophomore
Jonathan Dillard (Lakewood HS), who placed
52nd overall with a time of 21:55.00, while
sophomore Casey McCombs (Long Beach Wilson HS)
finished in 22:30.80, good for 85th overall.
The final two Falcon runners to comprise the team’s
final score were freshman Armando Pina (Kennedy
HS), who came in 100th place in 22:45.20
and freshman Erick Ordonez (Loara HS) with
a time of 23:03.60, good for 122nd place
overall.
Also running for
the team were sophomore Joseph Aranda (Norwalk
HS), who came in 127th place with a time
of 23:08.70, sophomore Miguel Ortega (John
Glenn HS) in 136th place at 23:18.70 and
freshman Qualaun Reed (Cabrillo HS) in
24:03.50, which put him in 174th place
overall.
Cerritos will
now compete in the Santa Barbara Invitational this
Saturday. |
