Running in the Santa Barbara Invitational
on Saturday, the Cerritos College men’s cross country
team came in ninth place, but that was only because they
competed without their best runner, sophomore Daniel
Clifford-Sorenson (Lakewood HS). The Falcons
amassed 237 team points, while there were 16 teams in
the invitational. Fresno City College won the meet with
83 team points, while conference foe El Camino College
placed third with 100 points. The team will now take a
week off before they run in the South Coast Conference
Championships at Hartwell Park in Lakewood.
Picking up the
slack for the Falcons over the four-mile course that
took them on a path on the cliffs overlooking the
Pacific Ocean were sophomores Casey McCombs (Long
Beach Wilson HS) and Jonathan Dillard (Lakewood
HS), who both finished in the top 30 runners out of
the 140 that competed. McCombs placed 24th
overall with a time of 23:08 and was part of a group of
runners that crossed the finish line in a group, while
Dillard was at the back of that group. His time of 23:13
put him in 27th place overall, but both of
them could have finished a little higher very easily.
Freshman
Armando Pina (Kennedy HS) finished the course
in 23:48, which got him 55th place, with
freshmen Giovanni Popoca and Erick Ordonez
(Loara HS) coming in 79th place with a
clocking of 24:35. Freshman Qualaun Reed (Cabrillo
HS) didn’t factor in the team’s scoring, but he
placed 82nd overall with a time of 24:44. |
