Running with a
limited squad, the Cerritos College men's cross
country team finished in 11th place out of 16 teams
at the Brubaker Invitational, on Saturday, which was
run at Irvine Regional Park. Next up for the Falcons
is the Santa Barbara Invitational this Saturday. The
team finished with 331 team points, with San Diego
Mesa College (40 team points) and San Bernardino
Valley College (49 points) in a close battle for
first place. Only Mt. San Antonio College (4th
place) from the South Coast Conference finished
ahead of the Falcons, who beat both Long Beach City
College (12th place) and Pasadena City College, who
came in 15th place.
Cerritos held back
their top six runners and chose to compete with only
five runners, which allowed the rest of the team to
earn some valuable experience. Freshman
John
Gaynor (Lakewood HS) was the
first Falcon to finish the four-mile run and placed
64th out of the 142 runners with a time of 22:24.13.
Not far behind was freshman
Kyle Bogda
(El Dorado HS), with a time of 22:30.14,
which put him in 70th place.
With only five
runners in the race, they provided the team's score,
with sophomore
Dashan
Craft (Warren HS) the third
Falcon to finish, as he came in 77th place overall
with a time of 22:45.44. Freshman
Roman Pena
(Valencia HS) placed 100th place, as he
crossed the finish line in 23:53.39, while freshman
Russell Kelly (Loara HS)
checked in with a time of 24:05.42, which put him in
104th place.
