Freshman Cerritos
College cross country runner Angel Aguirre
(Valencia HS) attacked the course at
Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday and finished the
4-mile course in a solid time of 21:48. His clocking
was the 23rd fastest out of the 256 runners and it
helped the Falcons place 11th as a team with 294
points. American River won the Fresno Invitational
with 100 team points, while two South Coast
Conference teams also finished ahead of Cerritos.
Not to be outdone
by the showing from Aguirre, sophomore
Geovanni Popoca (Valencia HS)
finished the race just one second later (21:49) and
finished 25th overall. However, there was a large
group of runners bunched together that crossed the
finish line before the third Cerritos runner.
Freshman Torion Bailey (Mayfair
HS) was less than a minute behind, but his time
of 22:35 netted him a 74th overall finish. Sophomore
Qualaun Reed (Cabrillo HS)
was 87th overall with a time of 22:43, while
freshman Russell Kelly (Loara
HS) rounded out the team scoring by being the
fifth Falcon runner to finish. He came in 101st
overall with a time of 22:56.
The remainder of
the Cerritos competitors included freshman
Jose Amador (El Rancho HS; 109th
place; 23:04), sophomore Dashan Craft
(Warren HS; 117th place; 23:10), freshman
Patrick Schwab (Kennedy HS;
119th place; 23:11), sophomore Armando Pina
(Kennedy HS; 130th place; 23:18), freshman
Kyle Bogda (El Dorado HS;
131st place; 23:18) and John Gaynor
(Lakewood HS; 160th place; 24:01).
