2009 Men's Cross Country Coach Bio

NAME: STEVE LAGUNA
ASSISTANT COACH

Before coaching at Cerritos College, Coach Laguna enjoyed a four-year run at East Los Angeles College serving first as an assistant coach and then as head coach for both the cross country and track & field teams. He was instrumental in the programs success as they reached two Top-10 finishes respectively, including coaching individual state champion and record holder Oscar Ogwaro. Additionally, Laguna was head girl’s coach at Rosemead High, where he captured three consecutive league titles in five seasons and coached former Cal State Long Beach standout Mario Cobian to second place in the CIF State Championships. In addition to other stints at El Monte High, Alhambra High, Huntington Park High and Rio Hondo College, he also coached the Men of Troy cross country/track club of USC, where he was involved in coaching several All-Americans in the distance events.

Coach Laguna possesses USATF Level-I Certification. He graduated from the University of Southern California with a BA in International Relations and from California State Los Angeles with an MA in Political Science. While at USC, he participated in the track/cross country programs and the marching band. He currently teaches Political Science at various colleges, including a current position at Cerritos.
