On the strength of
some strong individual finishes, the Cerritos
College men's cross country team came in second
place at the Crystal Springs Invitational, which
took place on Friday at the College of San Mateo.
The Falcons finished with 90 team points and were
just edged out for first place by College of the
Sequoias, who won the meet with 72 team points.
Cerritos was the lone school from Southern
California to compete in the meet, which consisted
of 15 school from Northern California. The Falcons
will now run in the Brubaker Invitational on
Saturday, which will take place at Irvine Park in
Santa Ana.
Placing seventh
out of 141 runners was freshman
Gabriel
Hilbert (Kennedy HS), who
turned in a time of 22:12.81, while sophomore
teammate
Patrick
Schwab (Kennedy HS) was right
behind in eighth place, as he finished the race in
22:14.37. As a team, the Falcons had their top five
runners finish in the top 25, while Sequoias saw
their fifth runner come in 26th place. But the
Giants were able to bunch their runners a little
closer together to earn the team victory.
The final three
runners that comprised the team score were sophomore
Angel Aguirre (Valencia HS),
who came in 17th place in a time of 22:34.09, while
sophomore

Martinez (Artesia HS) was in
23rd place at 22:49.45, with freshman
Jason Zapien (El Rancho HS) crossing
the finish line in 22:57.37, which was good for 25th
place.
