In a tight finish
for some of the top spots at the 33-team Southern
California Preview Meet at Mt. San Antonio College
on Saturday, the Cerritos College men's cross
country team finished in eighth place. The Falcons
compiled 248 team points and just missed out on
overtaking Southwestern College, who came in seventh
place with 244 team points. However, Cerritos just
got past Oxnard College, who wound up with 249
points, which put them in ninth place. After a week
off, the team will run in the South Coast Conference
Championships at Legg Lake in El Monte.
Freshman
Jason Zapien (El Rancho HS)
led the team over the 4-mile course, as he was
clocked in 22:34, which placed him 27th out of the
339 runners. The Falcons bunched their runners well,
with sophomore
Patrick
Schwab (Kennedy HS) in 39th
place at 22:59, while sophomore
Angel
Aguirre (Valencia HS) and
freshman
Gabriel
Hilbert (Kennedy HS) finished
in 48th and 49th places, respectively. Aguirre
finished in 23:10, while Hilbert was just two
seconds behind. The final runner for the team that
helped them compile their team scored was sophomore Torion
Bailey (Mayfair HS), who
finished in 98th place with a time of 24:02.
