Freshman Daniel Herrera (El Rancho HS), who finished in sixth place amongst a group of Division I runners two weeks ago, followed up that performance by winning the SoCal Preview Meet on Friday by completing the four-mile course in 20:08.97, which was 20 seconds head of the second place runner. Herrera, along with freshman Munir Kahssay, who placed fourth out of the 276 runners with a time of 20:39.19, helped the Cerritos College men's cross country team come in eighth place out of 30 teams with 172 team points. South Coast Conference opponent Los Angeles Trade-Tech College won the meet with 41 team points, while another conference foe, El Camino College, was seventh with 153 points. The team will run in the Vanguard Invitational on Saturday at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa.
After the two freshmen completed the course, they were joined by freshman Jose Hernandez (Magnolia HS), who finished 48th overall in 22:00.72, while freshman Thomas Poston (El Dorado HS) was clocked in 22:06.15 to finish 52nd overall. The fifth finisher for the Falcons, which compiled their team points was freshman Brandon Taylor (Mayfair HS), who came in 67th place overall in 22:31.55.
The rest of the squad that competed included Joe Magana (Cantwell HS; 76th overall; 22:41.25), Joey Moreno (El Rancho HS; 77th overall; 22:41.30), Jonathan Lyan (85th overall; 22:54.25), Luis Calderon (Whittier HS; 106th place; 23:23.35), John Acuna (Cypress HS; 112th overall; 23:30.34) and Edwin del Rosario (Kennedy HS; 206th overall; 25:35.43).
