Cerritos College men's soccer coach Benny Artiaga, who recently helped lead the Falcons to their first-ever California Community College State Championship, was recently named the NCSAA/adidas Junior College Division III National Men's Soccer Coach of the Year at a ceremony in Indianapolis last week. The Falcons, who turned in one of the most impressive defensive efforts ever seen, defeating four of the top teams in the state in the playoffs by a 1-0 score to conclude the season with a 20-3-5 record and #2 national ranking...[more]

12.14.06 - Awards handed out to state championship team
Fresh off winning their first California Community College state championship, the awards are now flowing in for the Cerritos College men's soccer team. The Falcons capped a 20-3-5 season with a 1-0 win over Taft College at Fresno Pacific University last Sunday, which included going 13-0-2 in their final 15 games and posting 1-0 wins in their final four games of the year...[more]

12.08.06 - Cerritos beats Fresno City 1-0 to advance to championships
Cerritos College sophomore forward Joshua Meyer (Cerritos HS) scored on a rebound in the 67th minute to lead the Falcons to a 1-0 victory over Fresno City College in the semi-finals of the California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics Soccer Championships Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Fresno Pacific University. The win sends the Falcons (19-3-5) to the championship game for the second time in three years and they will play on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. against the winner of the Los Angeles Mission College game against Taft College...[more]

12.02.06 - Late goal sends Falcons to State Final Four
Freshman midfielder Juan Huerta (Bell HS) made the most of his opportunity in the few minutes of playing time he had in the Cerritos College men's soccer Southern California Regional Playoff game at home against El Camino College on Saturday afternoon. With the winner advancing to the state championships, Huerta put a loose ball into the lower right corner of the net in the 88th minute to give the Falcons a 1-0 win. The victory advances Cerritos into the state Final Four for the second time in three years and they will play their semi-final game next Friday against Fresno City College at 10:00 a.m. at Fresno Pacific University. 11.21.06 - Late goal gives Falcons win over Santa Ana, 1-0
Cerritos College freshman forward Andy Rico (Lynwood HS) scored on a header in the 86th minute to give the Falcons a 1-0 win at Santa Ana College on Tuesday in the second round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The win knocks off the two-time defending state champions and moves the fifth-seeded Falcons (17-3-5)  to the next round, where they will face #8-seeded El Camino College, who upset top-seeded Mt. San Antonio, 2-1 on Tuesday. Cerritos will host the Warriors (17-7-2) on Saturday, December 2 at 2:00 p.m. with the winner advancing to the state championships the following weekend at Fresno Pacific University. 11.18.06 - Cerritos opens post season with 3-1 win over Santa Barbara
Freshman forward Brian Alvarez (Salesian HS) scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Cerritos College men's soccer team to a 3-1 1st Round Southern California Regional Playoff win against Santa Barbara City College at home on Saturday. The Falcons (16-3-5), seeded #5 in the playoffs, will now travel to Santa Ana College on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. to take on the #4-seeded Dons. Santa Ana, who received a bye in the first round, is also the two-time defending state champion and defeated the Falcons in the state championship game back in 2004...[more]

11.14.06 - Cerritos gets #5-seed after dust settles
After finishing in second place in the South Coast Conference, the Cerritos College men's soccer team was seeded #5 in the Southern California Regional Playoffs and will host a first round game on Saturday. The Falcons, who were ranked as high as #2 in Southern California into the final week of the season, saw their power rating drop after all teams in the state reported all of their games. As a result, Cerritos (15-3-5 overall) went from earning a first round bye (the top four seeds earn a bye) to hosting #12-seeded Santa Barbara City College (12-6-3) at 2:00 p.m. The Vaqueros came in third place in the Western State Conference...[more]

11.10.06 - Shutout wins prepares team for post season
With their 1-0 South Coast Conference home win against El Camino College on Friday afternoon, the Cerritos College men's soccer team will now wait for the outcome of the Long Beach City College game at East Los Angeles College this evening to find out if they finished the regular season in second place or tied for first place. The Falcons finished the regular season with a 15-3-5 overall record, while they ended 9-1-4 in SCC place, good for 31 points. Should East LA defeat the Vikings tonight, there would be a tie for first place and the two teams will share the championship. Cerritos will open the Southern California Regional Playoffs as the #2-seeded team and will receive a bye in the first round before hosting an opponent to be determined in the second round on November 21...[more]

11.07.06 - Draw prohibits Falcons from moving into first place tie
Looking to move into a first place tie in the South Coast Conference, the Cerritos College men's soccer team finished in a 1-1 tie with Long Beach City College on Tuesday afternoon. With the draw, the Falcons, rated #2 in the state, are now 8-1-4 in the SCC, good for 28 points, while the Vikings, rated #4, are now 10-2-1 for 31 points. With just one regular season game remaining, Cerritos (14-3-5 overall) will host El Camino College on Friday at home at 3:00 p.m., while LBCC will travel to East Los Angeles College for a 6:00 p.m. game. 11.03.06 - Win over LA Harbor keeps Falcons in the hunt for conference title
Looking to stay within striking distance of first place in the South Coast Conference, the Cerritos College men's soccer team scored three second half goals to post a 3-0 home win against Los Angeles Harbor College on Friday. The win moved the Falcons, ranked #2 in the state, to 14-3-4 on the year and they are now 8-1-3 in conference action, good for 27 points and at least a share of second place. Not only did the win extend their unbeaten streak to eight games (7-0-1), it kept them close to first place Long Beach City College (27 points entering the day) and second place Mt. San Antonio College (25 points entering the day), who faced each other today. 10.31.06 - Falcons beat top-rated team in the country, 2-0
The Cerritos College men's soccer team recorded their biggest win of the season on Tuesday afternoon when they defeated Mt. San Antonio College, 2-0 in a South Coast Conference game. The Mounties entered the game ranked #1 in both the nation and state and the win secured the team's third place spot in the conference with three regular season games remaining. With the win, the Falcons, who are ranked #2 in the state and in Southern California, are now 13-3-4 overall and 7-1-3 in the conference for 24 points, while Mt. SAC is now 17-2-2 on the year and 8-2-1 in the SCC for 25 points. Long Beach City currently leads the conference with a 9-2-0 record for 27 points. 10.27.06 - Win sets up showdown with Mt. San Antonio on Tuesday
After a disheartening 2-2 tie against ECC Compton Center on Tuesday, the Cerritos College men's soccer team was not about to let their 2-1 halftime lead slip away against Pasadena City College at home on Friday. The Falcons picked up an insurance goal in the 78th minute to post a 3-1 South Coast Conference win. With the victory, Cerritos is now 12-3-4 overall and 6-1-3 in the conference, while the Lancers fell to 8-6-5 overall and 3-4-3 in the SCC. Next up for Cerritos will be a crucial game at Mt. 10.24.06 - Falcons can't hold lead and settle for tie, 2-2
The Cerritos College men's soccer team took a 2-0 lead in their South Coast Conference game at ECC Compton Center on Tuesday afternoon and it appeared as though that would be enough offense to win the game. However, the Tartars scored two late goals to forge a tie with the Falcons, who are currently ranked #2 in Southern California. The draw snapped a four-game winning streak, but the team still has a five-game unbeaten streak intact. 10.20.06 - Offensive output propels Falcons to 4-1 win over ELAC
Sophomore forward Joshua Meyer (Cerritos HS) scored one goal and assisted on two others to help lead the Cerritos College men's soccer team to a 4-1 South Coast Conference victory over East Los Angeles College at home on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Falcons hold onto third place with a 5-1-2 record for 17 points, while the Huskies (7-6-5 overall) dropped to 2-4-2 in the SCC for eight points. On the year, Cerritos is 11-3-3 and they have the second highest power rating in Southern California. 10.17.06 - Cerritos records impressive 3-0 victory at El Camino
Looking to hold on to their third place position in the South Coast Conference standings, the Cerritos College men's soccer team went to El Camino College on Tuesday afternoon and handed them their first home loss of the season with a 3-0 decision. With the victory, the Falcons are now 10-3-3 on the year and 4-1-2 in the SCC for 14 points, while the Warriors slipped to 12-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the SCC for 13 points. Cerritos College freshman forward Brian Alvarez (Salesian HS) scored twice to lead the Falcon men's soccer team to a crucial 2-1 South Coast Conference win at Long Beach City College on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Falcons are now 9-3-3 overall and 3-1-2 in conference play, good for third place, while the Vikings slipped to 9-2-2 on the year and remain in second place with a 4-2-0 mark in the SCC. 10.11.06 - Even with top players out, Falcons roll to 5-1 victory
With a slew of injuries forcing the Cerritos College men's soccer team to play without some of their top players, the Falcons looked to freshman forward Andy Rico (Lynwood HS) for offense. Rico scored his first career hat trick in a 5-1 South Coast Conference win over Los Angeles Harbor on Tuesday afternoon to improve the team's record to 8-3-3 overall and 2-1-2 in conference play. In the five conference games, Rico now has six goals and seven on the season. 10.06.06 - Unbeaten streak comes to an end with loss to Mt. SAC
The Cerritos College men's soccer team saw their 10-game unbeaten streak come to an end after Mt. San Antonio College posted a 2-1 win against the Falcons at Cerritos on Friday afternoon. Heading into the game, the Falcons were 7-0-3 after losing their first two games of the season and now drop to 7-3-3 overall and 1-1-2 in conference action. For the Mounties, they improve to 12-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in conference play. 10.04.06 - Falcons extend unbeaten streak to 10 games with 1-1 tie
Looking to extend their unbeaten streak to 10 games, the Cerritos College men's soccer team needed to come back from a 1-0 deficit against Pasadena City College in a South Coast Conference road match on Tuesday. After the Lancers went up 1-0 in the 51st minute, the Falcons responded on a goal by freshman forward Andy Rico (Lynwood HS) in the 58th minute and secured a 1-1 tie. With the draw, Cerritos is now 7-2-3 overall and 1-0-2 in conference play, while they are now 7-0-3 in the last 10 games. The Falcons will get one of their toughest tests of the season when they play host to Mt. In a game that had a playoff atmosphere to it, both the Cerritos College and El Camino College Compton Center men's soccer teams did their best to position themselves for any offensive opportunities. Both had their chances, but were turned away by some nifty goalkeeping, as the schools played to a 0-0 tie in a South Coast Conference game played at Cerritos on Friday afternoon. With the draw, the Falcons are now 7-2-2 on the season and 1-0-1 in conference action, while the Tartars are 2-1-2 and 0-0-1. 09.27.06 - Win in conference opener sets tone for future
The Cerritos College men's soccer team took their first step towards challenging for the South Coast Conference championship after they posted a 2-0 conference-opening win at East Los Angeles College on Tuesday night. Entering the game, the Huskies (5-4-3) were ranked 20th in the country. With the win, the Falcons are now 7-2-1 overall and are unbeaten in their last eight games, while they are now 1-0-0 in SCC play. In their final tune-up before embarking on their South Coast Conference season, the Cerritos College men's soccer team pulled out a hard-fought 2-1 win at Southwestern College on Monday afternoon. The win, which extended their unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1) improved their record to 6-2-1 on the season, while the Apaches fell to 3-2-1. In what can be best described as playoff atmosphere, the Cerritos College men's soccer team played a very tightly contested game against Oxnard College on Friday afternoon at home. The Falcons and Condors played to a 0-0 draw which extends the Cerritos unbeaten streak to six games, as they are now 5-2-1 on the year, while Oxnard is now 3-2-2. Looking to exact a little revenge for their ousting from the Southern California Regional Playoffs last season, the Cerritos College men's soccer team scored two first half goals and went on to post a 2-0 victory over Rio Hondo College in a non-conference game at Cerritos on Wednesday. The win was the fifth in the row for the Falcons, who are now 5-2-0 on the season and they will play host to Oxnard College at 4:00 p.m. on Friday...[more]

09.12.06 - Freshman Bill Gutierrez scores twice to lead Cerritos to 3-0 win
Freshman midfielder Billy Gutierrez (Huntington Park HS) scored two goals to help lead the Cerritos College men's soccer team to a 3-0 non-conference win at Cypress College on Tuesday afternoon. Riding the momentum of their two wins at the Hartnell Tournament this past weekend, the Cerritos College men's soccer team recorded an 8-0 non-conference home win against San Bernardino Valley College on Tuesday. 09.05.06 - Falcons respond with two wins to take consolation
The Cerritos College men's soccer team rebounded from an opening round loss at the prestigious Hartnell Tournament over the weekend and won their next two games to capture the consolation championship. It marked the first time the team had won the consolation title since they competed in the tournament. After opening with a 2-0 loss to Fresno City College, the Falcons (2-2-0) posted a 2-1 win over American River College followed by a 4-0 victory over Canada College. At the start of their season-opening game, the Cerritos College men's soccer team came out and put four quick shots on goal against Golden West College at home on Tuesday.
